Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: It is now disclaimer time.
[00:00:02] Speaker B: We are here to share Prince's works with the utmost authenticity, clarity, and precision. This means there may be situations where the material being discussed may be sensitive or offensive to some. However, we have chosen to discuss his work as it was initially produced. We will not alter any of his original work to suit anyone's comfort, including our own. This podcast is to celebrate Prince and his works.
[00:00:29] Speaker C: Thank you for your support and understanding. Now onto the show.
[00:00:35] Speaker D: Hello. Welcome to Alphabet podcast for the Prince songbook. There are hundreds of songs to choose from. You have chosen.
[00:00:43] Speaker E: As you can see, we're communicating now telepathically.
[00:00:49] Speaker A: Producer, he's ready.
[00:00:52] Speaker E: He's ready.
[00:00:55] Speaker A: Welcome back to another episode of Elphabet. Sweet podcast.
I am your host, Timothy.
[00:01:08] Speaker E: Along with me, your co host, patithy.
[00:01:16] Speaker C: And I'm producer Aaron Raghan.
[00:01:19] Speaker A: Paddy, huh?
[00:01:20] Speaker E: Well, I'm just.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: I was trying to think of something clever to say, but not what's coming.
[00:01:25] Speaker E: No, I was wondering why the pause? Oh, that's your brain on steroids right there, man.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: Today we are here to talk about affirmation three.
[00:01:37] Speaker E: Not one, not two, three.
[00:01:42] Speaker A: Excellent.
And that is your lesson for the day.
[00:01:51] Speaker E: That's what you get for listening to us.
Absolutely nothing.
[00:01:55] Speaker A: So.
[00:01:57] Speaker E: So talk about it. What is it?
[00:01:59] Speaker A: Affirmation three is, of course, off of.
[00:02:02] Speaker E: Art of artificial age.
[00:02:04] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:02:08] Speaker E: You find yourself very funny, don't you?
[00:02:11] Speaker A: I found myself very stupid.
[00:02:13] Speaker E: Oh.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: But if you want to, you know, think I'm funny, that's cool.
[00:02:18] Speaker E: You're hilarious.
[00:02:19] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:02:20] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:02:21] Speaker A: So what do you think?
[00:02:25] Speaker E: It was better than one and two, actually? Well, because it was, like, longer that there was actually substance to it. It was like three and a half minutes long, and there was music and talking and more of the way back home, you know? However, I saw no affirmation there. I don't recall ever hearing anyone say, you know, this is affirmation number three. And this. So apparently it's.
We're back to two, where you have to decipher it yourself from. Yes.
[00:03:02] Speaker A: That very well could be. That very well could be.
[00:03:05] Speaker E: Why don't you move that with you, man, bro? It's on an arm for that reason. Look at that.
[00:03:10] Speaker A: I'm just gonna keep my hand on it.
[00:03:12] Speaker E: Technology, man. It works. Yeah, so you could.
[00:03:15] Speaker A: Yeah. Now notice, because my back, you know.
[00:03:18] Speaker E: Well, I get that, but you have. You have the arm that you can better. I mean, kick back, relax. Just take the mic with you.
People do like to hear what you got to say.
[00:03:28] Speaker A: Is it long enough to go to the bathroom.
We about to go. All right, so.
[00:03:35] Speaker E: So it looks like the same recording people.
[00:03:40] Speaker A: I got you, man.
[00:03:41] Speaker E: People do.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: You know? I don't know you ever.
She's on, like, many different channels. I'm sure. But ours was, like, what, 103.1?
And it would be at nighttime, like, I think sometime on the weekend. I don't remember.
[00:03:58] Speaker E: You're talking radio channels, right?
[00:03:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:03:59] Speaker E: Okay.
[00:04:00] Speaker A: And, like, we'd have Delilah remember that, and she would always get these, you know, have people call in, you know. Oh, yeah. Could you send it? I miss him. He's 300 miles away. I just want him to know that I love him. And you don't know who Delilah is, and then she'll play a song for him.
[00:04:18] Speaker E: No.
[00:04:19] Speaker A: Really?
[00:04:20] Speaker E: So I'm guessing she was a dj. Yeah, dude, I.
[00:04:23] Speaker A: She was biggest.
[00:04:24] Speaker E: I'm sure she was, but you know how often I actually listen to the radio?
[00:04:27] Speaker A: Dude, this was like, hello.
[00:04:31] Speaker E: That's a microphone.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: Yeah, this was a while ago, bro. It's like.
I don't know.
[00:04:36] Speaker E: Well. And I didn't listen. Even when I did listen, I didn't listen to 103.
[00:04:40] Speaker A: Wow. Okay. So you don't know who Delilah is?
[00:04:42] Speaker E: I do not. But she would do, like, long distance dedications type things. Okay.
[00:04:47] Speaker A: It's really cool.
She sings backup on the song.
[00:04:53] Speaker E: I have a doubt it's her.
[00:04:55] Speaker A: It says Delilah.
How do you know it's not?
[00:04:59] Speaker E: I'm not saying I know. I said I doubt.
Why would someone from a local radio station where we're at go do anything with it, prince?
To be fair, it could have been a syndicated show like Bob and Tom.
It could have been, yeah.
However, when you look up Delilah, it's paloma Ayanna Stodek. Yeah. Who records under the name Delilah as an english singer. So I'm gonna tend to say it probably was not her because she doesn't.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: Have, like, a frenchy sound to her. To the Delilah on the state radio. Okay, dude, why you gotta do all that? Shut up.
[00:05:43] Speaker E: Why do I do home? What?
[00:05:47] Speaker A: All right.
[00:05:48] Speaker E: Anyway, it's kind of cool. I ain't gonna lie. It's kind of cool. I don't know. People have noticed that we each have a computer in front of us now, which we never had before.
[00:05:57] Speaker A: I'm liking this. I really am.
[00:05:59] Speaker E: It kind of helps us to add more to it, you know, and keep the podcast moving quicker because we're not having to do all the research ahead of time. We can kind of help producer Aaron. He gets his stuff. We can help do some more stuff. In here and.
[00:06:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:06:13] Speaker E: So it's kind of cool. I kind of like this.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: She has a. She has an album.
[00:06:18] Speaker E: I'm sure she does. She's recording artist. Just one album?
[00:06:22] Speaker A: One.
[00:06:23] Speaker E: One released in 2012 from the Roots up.
She has a mixtape.
[00:06:31] Speaker A: Mm hmm.
[00:06:32] Speaker E: So, yeah, I mean, she's got.
[00:06:34] Speaker A: No, it's also a free download on Delilah's website.
[00:06:38] Speaker E: So there you go.
Go to Delilah's website and you can hear. She did backing vocals on affirmation three.
[00:06:45] Speaker A: She did.
Didn't we mention that?
[00:06:49] Speaker E: I think we did. No, you just went off on the Delilah kick. I thought you were gonna do a long distance dedication to someone for this.
So. But it's got Leanne Lejava's again.
[00:07:01] Speaker A: Yeah, she's pretty.
[00:07:03] Speaker E: Joshua Welton. Kathy Jensen on the clarinet, Kenny Holman on the flute. And guess who does the strings.
String genius.
So.
But, yeah, so this was another one for me. It was just. I don't know, it was like an extended segue, except it was the last song on the album, so it didn't segue into anything and segued into start all over again.
I know. You got notes, right? You always got notes.
[00:07:43] Speaker A: I like the music and I like the way he sings, you know, way.
[00:07:48] Speaker E: Back home in the background. Yeah. Okay, well, because that's. That was a good song. Way back home. Yeah.
[00:07:54] Speaker A: Nothing more to say, though.
[00:07:55] Speaker E: Nothing more. Well, like I said, I mean, when we talk about these, they're just more or less just a segue and we just cover them because that's.
That's his thing, you know?
I mean, we could talk about something else, like traffic or stupid drivers.
[00:08:13] Speaker A: You know what else we could talk about?
[00:08:14] Speaker E: What can we talk about?
[00:08:17] Speaker A: We can talk about.
Give me 1 second. You talk about something else?
[00:08:22] Speaker E: Well, no, we could talk about stupid drivers. Because I tell you what, Mandev, I deal with it every day on the way home from work, and it. It drives me nuts. You get behind someone who wants to do like 15 miles under the speed limit in a two lane road where it's a no passing zone. And then when you hit the passing zone and you're like, okay, I'm going to get around these people.
They like, speed up to like 10 miles over the speed limit.
[00:08:47] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:08:48] Speaker E: I'm like, what the heck is wrong with you, man?
So we can talk about that, but I don't want to.
[00:08:54] Speaker A: A lot of.
[00:08:55] Speaker E: Just a lot of stupid drivers out there, man.
[00:08:58] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. It's horrible, man.
[00:09:00] Speaker E: There's a lot of dumb snacks, too. There are a lot of dumb snacks. I thought Timmy was gonna bring this one in, but he just kind of let it go. He let it rise.
[00:09:09] Speaker A: I was actually going into something, but I figured. Did you hear that long pause, though?
[00:09:15] Speaker E: Yeah, I thought you was thinking.
[00:09:16] Speaker A: No, I was thinking, like, Aaron would jump in. Yeah.
[00:09:19] Speaker E: Oh, yeah. I had planned on it, but I thought you were gonna do it, so I was gonna give you that honor. We are, like not in sync here lately, man. We have to.
[00:09:29] Speaker A: We'll get it back.
[00:09:30] Speaker E: Sync back up again. So, produce heron, you want to bring us in on this one?

[00:11:13] Speaker E: Lets see what we get today for affirmation. Three snack.
I'm not hearing anything coming from the recording booth.
[00:11:23] Speaker A: I heard a bag.
[00:11:24] Speaker E: Did you hear a bag?
[00:11:25] Speaker A: I heard a bag.
[00:11:28] Speaker E: I don't know. It's not a bag. Is it a bag? He's coming in looking.
This is not a bag.
This is.
[00:11:39] Speaker A: Did he get it out of a bag?
[00:11:41] Speaker E: Huh?
[00:11:42] Speaker A: Huh?
[00:11:43] Speaker E: Hershey's plant based oat chocolate confection, extra creamy almond and sea salt.
[00:11:52] Speaker A: Hmm.
[00:11:53] Speaker E: So we get some sweets.
Yeah.
Show them what we're eating.
There's no light.
We need to take care of that.
[00:12:07] Speaker A: Does this mean healthier?
[00:12:09] Speaker E: I don't know. It's plant based. Probably not. Most stuff isn't.
I'm gonna just try one little square. You want one little square?
[00:12:25] Speaker A: Okay.
Thank you.
[00:12:30] Speaker E: Yeah, I'll take one little square. It takes two.
[00:12:32] Speaker A: There you go.
[00:12:41] Speaker E: What's in here?
[00:12:42] Speaker A: Did you say there was nuts in here?
[00:12:44] Speaker E: Almonds and sea salt.
[00:12:45] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:12:53] Speaker E: I taste zero chocolate.
[00:12:57] Speaker A: No, you taste plant based chocolate, that's why.
[00:13:01] Speaker E: Which chocolate's a plant?
[00:13:04] Speaker A: They did something funny. I don't know.
[00:13:12] Speaker E: Yeah, it's not really super sweet.
Interesting.
Sure don't taste like a Hershey's, I'll tell you that. No, it does not taste like a Hershey's.
[00:13:26] Speaker A: Mmm.
I tasted the sea salt.
[00:13:30] Speaker E: I got a little bit of the sea salt. And you get the almonds. Cause it's just almond chips, like, in.
[00:13:35] Speaker A: There, which I'm okay with.
[00:13:37] Speaker E: Yeah. I'm not saying you gotta have, but the chocolate is just not.
[00:13:41] Speaker A: It's not there, man.
[00:13:42] Speaker E: But to be fair, it's better than some of those chips we've had. Oh, it's way better than those. I'd take this over any of them chips we had.
Yeah.
So, affirmation three. We've decided you get no affirmations other than what you take on your own.
Music's all right.
Very soothing.
But I don't know if I would pick it as a song to listen to.
[00:14:18] Speaker A: I could think of a lot of other songs on there that I would listen to before this.
[00:14:22] Speaker E: Yeah. And of course, there's no covers or samples or anything on this one, because who's gonna sample the Segway?
[00:14:32] Speaker A: You never know.
[00:14:33] Speaker E: You never know. Prince would probably sample someone Segway, so. But the orchestral, orchestral parts of this was actually supposed to be on way back home, but Prince chose to, uh, put it on this.
Yeah. So anyway, um, that's about it for this one. We're gonna step out early since it was a short one. So until next time, people. Peace.
[00:15:03] Speaker A: Peace.
[00:15:05] Speaker E: Bye.
[00:15:15] Speaker C: This has been a tataka enterprises production.
