Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: It is now disclaimer time.
[00:00:02] Speaker B: We are here to share Prince's works with the utmost authenticity, clarity, and precision. This means there may be situations where the material being discussed may be sensitive or offensive to some. However, we have chosen to discuss his work as it was initially produced. We will not alter any of his original work to suit anyone's comfort, including our own. This podcast is to celebrate Prince and his works.
[00:00:29] Speaker C: Thank you for your support and understanding. Now onto the show.
[00:00:35] Speaker D: Hello. Welcome to Alphabet podcast for the Prince songbook. There are hundreds of songs to choose from. You have chosen.
[00:00:50] Speaker B: So I will start this one. There we go.
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to storytime.
You are about to hear the story of act of contrition on the Alphabet Suite podcast.
I am your host, Pat.
[00:01:14] Speaker A: I am your co host, Mister Rogers, because that's what it all just reminded me of, bro. I am your co host, Timothy.
[00:01:23] Speaker B: And I'm producer Aaron Rod.
[00:01:28] Speaker A: Uh oh.
[00:01:30] Speaker B: It's coming right for us.
You know, that's the perfect thing to play with this. Cause with act of contrition. It's a Madonna song.
Yeah. And again, we're at a spot where we're doing.
He had his hands on so many things, and he did so much that this song is only on here. And he's. Even if I remember, he's uncredited for this. He played guitar, and that's all he did. He played guitar on this song.
What is up with your.
[00:02:11] Speaker A: You said he had his hands all in it. It's Madonna. I mean, it's.
[00:02:20] Speaker B: He had his hands all in Madonna.
I don't. I don't even want to think about that. That's just, you know. But in all honesty, if we're going to talk about Madonna. Cause we are.
She wasn't that bad in her younger days.
[00:02:38] Speaker A: Yeah, she was kind of like that.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: She's always been. In my opinion, she's always been a little off, but, I mean, she wasn't hard on the eyes back then. It wasn't like she was super hot or super sexy. I know a lot of people would disagree with me, and that's fine, but she wasn't bad. So if he had his hands all up in that at this time, it wouldn't have been as bad as if he was doing it now.
[00:03:05] Speaker C: It'd be more bad for her if it was happening.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: It would be better.
[00:03:08] Speaker A: That's what I'm just thinking.
[00:03:11] Speaker B: All right, moving along, moving along.
So, yeah, this is on her like a prayer cd.
And all he did was play guitar.
He recorded his part in, like, november of 88 to everything. I can tell. He never even, like, went to the studio with Madonna on this. He just recorded it and sent it and that was that, so.
[00:03:44] Speaker A: Hmm.
[00:03:46] Speaker B: Yeah. So, I mean, this song, I don't even really like the song. I mean, his guitar solo was really good, but the song itself is not. And there are some Madonna songs that I like.
This is not one of them for me.
But I think I need to change Timmy T's batteries. He just froze up.
[00:04:16] Speaker A: It's reading, man.
Um.
[00:04:21] Speaker B: Reading your notes.
[00:04:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:04:23] Speaker B: What do you got for notes?
[00:04:25] Speaker A: I can't figure out what this. Why do I got something about girls going wild up in here?
[00:04:29] Speaker B: Because that is the only sample that was done from this song is girl Gone Wild, which is another Madonna song. So Madonna sampled her own song, which is not unheard of. Prince does it all the time, or did it all the time. Many people do it, but she used some of the lyrics from this in her girl gone wild song. Okay, so it was technically, it was sampled, but only by her.
[00:04:59] Speaker A: All right, so I think it was a.
[00:05:07] Speaker C: I heard that.
[00:05:08] Speaker B: That was me. I forgot to turn my phone down.
[00:05:10] Speaker A: Really, though?
[00:05:13] Speaker B: Okay, that's my bad. That is poor etiquette.
[00:05:18] Speaker A: Naughty, naughty.
[00:05:19] Speaker B: Yeah, let me.
Okay, that. That won't happen. I apologize, people.
All right.
Usually I have that done already. I thought I did that. My bad. Anyway.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: Well, I think.
I think it was a pretty wild beginning to be a Madonna song. It just didn't strike me as a Madonna song at all.
[00:05:45] Speaker B: It's because it was Prince playing guitar.
[00:05:47] Speaker A: And it was a whole lot of.
[00:05:49] Speaker B: Guitar because it was Prince playing guitar.
[00:05:52] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know that the song, the music, it just didn't sound right to me with her singing and talking and whatnot.
And I didn't really care for the music. None of it. No, none of it. It was just horrible to me, you know?
[00:06:11] Speaker B: Yeah. I wasn't a fan of the song at all.
And I'm sorry that you guys, you know, we've had to add this to the. The list. But like I said, we're trying to be complete here. We're trying to be as complete as we can. And that means you play guitar on a Madonna song. So we're gonna talk about a Madonna song and it will be up on our Alphabet suite playlist. If it doesn't get I like our.
[00:06:38] Speaker A: Sister channel thing better. That sounds better to me.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: Our sister. Yeah, it is our sister channel.
[00:06:46] Speaker C: Well, we could lighten the mood a.
[00:06:47] Speaker B: Little bit and do snack time early. Yeah, well, I don't I don't really think it's gonna be much early because there's not gonna be much more talking about this song.
[00:06:55] Speaker A: So I have nothing.
[00:06:56] Speaker B: Yeah. So, Castos, do your thing.

What do we got?
[00:08:53] Speaker A: We have. Excuse me. We have wrap snacks. Lil baby.
All in flavor.
[00:09:02] Speaker B: Little baby flavors.
[00:09:03] Speaker A: Horrible. Salt and vinegar, barbecue onion, garlic, and rap snacks. Who got this? Come on now.
That's horrible.
[00:09:13] Speaker B: It's little baby.
[00:09:14] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Let me give it a good look.
[00:09:17] Speaker B: So, yeah, wraps.
[00:09:19] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:09:24] Speaker B: Was it really all those flavors? Salt and vinegar and barbecue and onion and garlic and. And more.
You smell it already, don't you?
[00:09:38] Speaker A: All right.
[00:09:45] Speaker B: You look like it doesn't really smell too bad.
[00:09:47] Speaker A: No, I don't. It looks like we paid somebody. Paid a lot for air.
[00:09:52] Speaker B: It's nitrogen in there.
No, dude, really? They fill these bags with nitrogen because if they filled it with air, your chips would go stale.
[00:10:00] Speaker A: Really?
[00:10:01] Speaker B: So they fill them with nitrogen because nitrogen will not make your chips go stale. And.
Yeah. And it keeps it fluffed up so the chips don't get smashed.
So, yeah, I mean, I know we. We all collect, complain because you spend all this money on a bag of chips and it's three quarters air, but there's a reason for it.
Dude, why are you waiting on me?
[00:10:27] Speaker A: Just eat it.
It just sounds horrible.
Might be good, but see, I like all them flavors except for barbecue.
So.
[00:10:41] Speaker B: Get more vinegar. Way more vinegar.
Wow.
It's almost got a dill pickle.
[00:10:50] Speaker C: It's like a vinegar barbecue. It's like a Carolina barbecue.
[00:10:54] Speaker B: Yeah, I feel like I'm eating a dill barbecued. Dill pickle.
Yeah.
[00:11:05] Speaker A: You know what?
[00:11:06] Speaker B: It's robust. That's for sure. The flavor is, like, right there, man.
[00:11:11] Speaker A: There's a lot of it.
[00:11:12] Speaker B: There's a lot of flavor on that one.
[00:11:16] Speaker A: We could be doing pineapple, Pepsi, and you would bring it around as a dill pickle taste you dill pickle taste a lot of things, bro. Just saying.
[00:11:27] Speaker B: Ooh, man, that is, like, in your face.
It's probably so strong.
[00:11:31] Speaker C: Cause they smoke so much that their.
[00:11:32] Speaker B: Taste buds are fried.
That's their target audience.
These are weed munchies.
Wow. That one's.
That's very robust.
Keep eating it.
What you think of it, though?
Not that people can hear you because you're not, you know, mic'd up your stuff.
[00:12:05] Speaker C: They're strong, though.
[00:12:06] Speaker B: They are strong.
Very strong.
I don't think I've ever had Carolina barbecue. Is that what it tastes like? Very southern. So it's a southern flavor? Is that what you're trying to say?
[00:12:19] Speaker A: Yeah, you know, taste garlic at all?
[00:12:22] Speaker B: No, I don't taste any garlic. You.
[00:12:25] Speaker A: All I taste is barbecue.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: Yeah, the more.
[00:12:30] Speaker A: The more. Oh, it just tastes vinegar and barbecue.
[00:12:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:33] Speaker A: I thought he said s'mores.
[00:12:36] Speaker B: You don't know the more could be s'mores.
[00:12:39] Speaker A: Yeah, that's all I taste. Barbecue and vinegar. It's actually not bad.
[00:12:43] Speaker B: No, you like it?
[00:12:44] Speaker A: Yeah, I like it. It's not bad.
[00:12:45] Speaker B: It's very strong.
Looks like you get to finish that bag.
All right.
Hey, we got our Kenny back. Hey, Morph.
[00:13:02] Speaker A: He comes. You never notice. He comes a lot during snack time.
[00:13:08] Speaker B: Come here, Morph.
[00:13:10] Speaker A: We're going to start doing some tuna, snacks, cat food. Oh, no.
[00:13:15] Speaker B: Although, you know, we can do some morph snack times.
[00:13:18] Speaker A: We could. Although, I wouldn't mind trying them pepperonis. Oh, smells so good.
Check this out. My brother in law, he was looking for a snack one day.
[00:13:32] Speaker B: Oh, this does not. I can almost see where this is going.
[00:13:37] Speaker A: He looks on the counter and he pulls his bag, and he's like, you know, Julie, what are these? That's the. They're like little cookies for the dogs. Oh, he opens them up.
[00:13:49] Speaker B: No, he didn't.
[00:13:50] Speaker A: He took one out. He ate that bad boy. These are pretty good. Ate another one. Shut up.
[00:13:55] Speaker B: No, he didn't. Yes, he did.
Yes.
[00:13:59] Speaker A: Yes, he did.
[00:14:00] Speaker B: Ate the little dog biscuits, huh?
[00:14:02] Speaker A: He said they was good.
[00:14:04] Speaker C: I don't know.
[00:14:07] Speaker B: All right, well, on that note, I think we've done enough damage here.
So until next time, people, peace.
[00:14:15] Speaker A: Peace.
[00:14:25] Speaker C: This has been a Tatanka Enterprises production.
