[00:00:00] Speaker A: It is now disclaimer time. [00:00:02] Speaker B: We are here to share Prince's works with the utmost authenticity, clarity, and precision. This means there may be situations where the material being discussed may be sensitive or offensive to some. However, we have chosen to discuss his work as it was initially produced. We will not alter any of his original work to suit anyone's comfort, including our own. This podcast is to celebrate Prince and his works. Thank you for your support and understanding. Now on to the show. [00:00:36] Speaker A: Hello. [00:00:36] Speaker B: Welcome to Alphabet Suite podcast for the Prince Songbook. [00:00:40] Speaker A: There are hundreds of songs to choose from. You have chosen. [00:00:49] Speaker B: And he's just gonna jump right into it, Right? Ready or not, here it comes. Here it comes. Another episode of the Alphabet Suite podcast. I am one of your hosts, Pat. [00:01:05] Speaker A: I am the other host, Timothy. [00:01:08] Speaker B: What's up? Producer Aaron. Rock on. Producer Aaron's a little. [00:01:15] Speaker A: Yeah, he's something. [00:01:16] Speaker B: He's having a good morning. Yeah, he is locked and ready to rock, baby. Yeah, he's firing on all cylinders. [00:01:27] Speaker A: Let me put my half glasses. [00:01:28] Speaker B: Your half glasses. So speaking of glasses, I went, oh. [00:01:34] Speaker A: I can't see them. [00:01:35] Speaker B: I went yesterday and to get some. Some work glasses, you know, some prescription. Because, yeah, I'm old and I need glasses now, in case people haven't noticed, but to get some prescription safety glasses. Right, right. And holy crap. It was like, now, fortunately, I didn't have to pay for all of it because, you know, our company covers a lot of. Was like almost $800 a pair. [00:02:09] Speaker A: What are you talking about? [00:02:11] Speaker B: $800 a pair for prescription safety glasses? You must be looking at Louis Vuitton or something. No. [00:02:22] Speaker A: Wow. [00:02:22] Speaker B: You think an insurance company is gonna cover Louis Vuitton's or anything like that? No, these were just cheap safety glasses. And I'm like, holy cow. So, yeah. Wow. Yeah. [00:02:37] Speaker A: That's crazy. [00:02:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Anyway. Yeah. [00:02:42] Speaker A: Can you hear me? [00:02:44] Speaker B: I can. Can you hear me? [00:02:45] Speaker A: I can. [00:02:46] Speaker B: Okay. [00:02:47] Speaker A: All right. [00:02:48] Speaker B: So this episode, we're not talking about safety glasses anymore. Limited edition Ray Bans. They had. I don't even know. I didn't even look at. Cause they had, like. You could get like, glasses, like what I got. And they just had the safety lenses, but then they would put the side shields on, which is what I got. Cause I don't. Otherwise it was like nasty, you know, birth control looking glasses where, you know. So I wasn't going to get any of those. I'm ugly enough. I don't need help. So. [00:03:19] Speaker A: You know what? [00:03:20] Speaker B: What? [00:03:20] Speaker A: I watch. I watch the NFL Network, people. [00:03:26] Speaker B: I'm sorry. [00:03:27] Speaker A: No, it's Cool. You know, because I like it. And they do different, you know, segments in their show. It's like Angry Runs, you know, Kyle Brandt does that. [00:03:41] Speaker B: Angry Runs? [00:03:42] Speaker A: Yeah, like for anybody that had, like they're running and then just like stiff arm, you know. And that's an angry run. Oh, so they do. And then he gives this, you know, trophy for. To the winner of the angry runs guy. It's kind of cool. Anyway, it's not my point. [00:03:59] Speaker B: What was your point? [00:04:00] Speaker A: I tried to give them an idea what they could do for a segment. [00:04:05] Speaker B: You like, actually reached out to them? [00:04:07] Speaker A: Yes. Cool ass names to say, huh? [00:04:11] Speaker B: Yeah. And they. Did they respond to you? [00:04:14] Speaker A: Not at all. [00:04:14] Speaker B: I wonder why. [00:04:16] Speaker A: But that's okay. You know, I'm sure they get a lot of stuff. They probably did. It didn't seem mine, you know, maybe if I would have went on an angry rant. [00:04:27] Speaker B: Anyway, anyway. [00:04:30] Speaker A: Isaiah Pacheco. I'm doing my. That segment on here right now. Isaiah Pacheco. Tell me that ain't a cool name to say. Pacheco. [00:04:44] Speaker B: I said that in the previous episode. [00:04:46] Speaker A: Did I say Isaiah Pacheco? [00:04:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Is that another one? [00:04:49] Speaker A: Rock on. Did I really? I don't recall. [00:04:52] Speaker B: That's because you're old. [00:04:54] Speaker A: Hiram. A H I R A M. How do you say that? Hear him, Hiram. [00:05:01] Speaker B: You know, we haven't said is what song we're talking about because every time I keep trying to. [00:05:05] Speaker A: Boca Chica. [00:05:08] Speaker B: That's another name. He said last time. This is what we. [00:05:10] Speaker A: I don't recall this. Did we? [00:05:12] Speaker B: Like I've been editing. He is the producer. He knows what we talk about. [00:05:17] Speaker A: Reading my mind or something. Like just edit it in there with my voice. [00:05:20] Speaker B: I'm seeing the future and adding it to the episode. [00:05:23] Speaker A: Man. I'm gonna go look now. Anyways, those are my two names. [00:05:27] Speaker B: You gave us like five. Oh, Boca Chica Pacheco. I mean, that's it. [00:05:32] Speaker A: That's it. Isaiah Pacheco and whatever. [00:05:35] Speaker B: Hi, Rome. [00:05:36] Speaker A: Boca Chica, Chica Chica Chica. Yeah. All right. All the critics in New York love you. That is where we're at today. [00:05:46] Speaker B: Dude, are you high? All the critics love you in New York. [00:05:49] Speaker A: All the critics hate you in New York. I mean, I don't know. What's the name of this song? [00:05:52] Speaker B: I just said the name of this. [00:05:54] Speaker A: Didn't I say the name of the song? [00:05:55] Speaker B: He said all the critics in New York love you. There's a big difference between all the critics in New York loving you and all the critics loving you in New York. [00:06:06] Speaker A: Oh, I'm trying to steal the show. [00:06:07] Speaker B: And you just screwed me, so you rock on. Go. [00:06:10] Speaker A: No, no, I'm good. [00:06:11] Speaker B: Take it over, man. [00:06:13] Speaker A: No, I'm good. Let me turn my page. Y'all didn't like my little segment thing, so. [00:06:17] Speaker B: Because you already talked about it. [00:06:19] Speaker A: I don't recall this. Damn. I'm so old. Oh, wait till next one. [00:06:25] Speaker B: I got more names. I'm so. You. [00:06:28] Speaker A: You can throw some names in there. You know, it could be anybody. [00:06:30] Speaker B: Can I. Yeah. Okay. [00:06:31] Speaker A: Okay, good. Talk about the song. [00:06:35] Speaker B: Okay, well, let's talk about the song. Do you even know the song? [00:06:40] Speaker A: All the critics love you in New York. I do know this song. I never really was very fond of that song. No, no, not at all. [00:06:52] Speaker B: Title's too long. [00:06:53] Speaker A: It is. [00:06:54] Speaker B: Is that why. [00:06:56] Speaker A: That's not why, but it is too long. Yeah. I don't know. Sounds like a. Like a. Like a dance song. The music. But he doesn't sing as if it was a dance song. That's what it reminds me of. I don't really. It just didn't, you know, didn't sound right to me. [00:07:18] Speaker B: I. I agree with you on one thing. I. I was never a fan of this song. I. I never really understood the point of the song. I'm sure he had a point behind the song, you know, but when you look at 1999 as a whole, to me, it felt lyrically out of place with everything musically. It fit in with what he was doing musically on the album. [00:07:49] Speaker A: Right. [00:07:51] Speaker B: But lyrically, it just. To me, it made, like, little to no sense. [00:07:57] Speaker A: I'm with you. [00:07:58] Speaker B: You can dance if you want to. All the critics love you in New York. [00:08:03] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, however, because I was in the middle of my notes when you took over. [00:08:09] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm trying to steal the show back. [00:08:10] Speaker A: Yeah. He just interrupted, that's all. That's okay, though. [00:08:13] Speaker B: That's. That's what I do. [00:08:14] Speaker A: That's what you do. [00:08:15] Speaker B: I try to. Yeah. Try to keep the show on track. [00:08:19] Speaker A: However. [00:08:21] Speaker B: Pacheco. [00:08:22] Speaker A: Yeah, Pacheco. That is a great name, man. [00:08:24] Speaker B: Anyway, however. [00:08:25] Speaker A: Oh, you don't want me to go back into that. [00:08:27] Speaker B: No, I do not. [00:08:28] Speaker A: Stay away from that for some reason. I mean, even, like, what you said, you know, and. And I'm thinking it's like more like music is dancy and he's singing not like a dancy to me. That's, you know, how I feel about it. But he made it work, you know? He made it work with the album, you know, it's kind of what you're saying is where the. Musically it was. [00:08:53] Speaker B: Like, musically it fit. [00:08:55] Speaker A: Yeah. So that's what. That's weird you would say that, because that's what I was thinking. That's what I wrote. Say we're on the same thing. It's unusual. [00:09:04] Speaker B: We are. Very unusual. [00:09:05] Speaker A: Yes, we are. You know, and even though I didn't care much for it, I mean, it was kind of great to hear it again, you know, back in the day. You know. [00:09:16] Speaker B: Brought back memories. [00:09:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Brought back that I didn't like it. No, it brought back that. It, you know, just know. 1999 and all that. It was great. [00:09:26] Speaker B: Yeah. I. I don't know if it really. [00:09:33] Speaker A: I don't know what that does. [00:09:34] Speaker B: What are you doing? [00:09:35] Speaker A: I got to leave it alone. I don't know. It's. It's a thingy. [00:09:40] Speaker B: It is a thingy. [00:09:42] Speaker A: Yeah. So. [00:09:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:44] Speaker A: Is there any. [00:09:46] Speaker B: So oddly enough, there is a couple remakes, believe it or not. [00:09:59] Speaker A: Correct. [00:10:00] Speaker B: Of all the songs to remake. I don't know why anyone would really want to remake this one. Because. I don't know. Like I said, musically, it wasn't too bad. It definitely was not the best song on that album. [00:10:14] Speaker A: Correct. [00:10:15] Speaker B: By any stretch of the imagination. [00:10:16] Speaker A: We all know it was free. But ahead. [00:10:18] Speaker B: Is that. Was that the best song? [00:10:19] Speaker A: That was the. [00:10:20] Speaker B: See, I want to disagree with you on that one. [00:10:21] Speaker A: Yeah. We going to be fighting up in here. [00:10:23] Speaker B: All right. [00:10:23] Speaker A: I'm going to throw guitars. [00:10:24] Speaker B: I'm going to get Tony. [00:10:25] Speaker A: Oh, you win. [00:10:27] Speaker B: Okay. [00:10:27] Speaker A: All right. [00:10:28] Speaker B: So. But there was a couple. There was one by a woman named Kelly Gray, which was a unique take on it. And then there's this. I don't know if I'd actually call it a cover as much as more sampling, but he kind of sampled everything. It's really. You'd have to listen, but it's by this guy called Moody man, and he did five different versions of his song called you'd Can Dance if youf Want To Now. I. I wasn't a fan of any of them. [00:11:10] Speaker A: Okay. [00:11:11] Speaker B: However, I was a fan of. So it was a. A two record, 12 inch set. Okay. So four sides. Right. Side A, side B to record one, and the side A and side B to record two. Right. [00:11:31] Speaker A: Okay. [00:11:32] Speaker B: On each side. There was no. There was. I. There was never any album art. It came in just like a plain white sleeve looking thing. But on the inlay of the record, each one has a naked woman on it. A different naked woman. [00:11:51] Speaker A: Really? [00:11:52] Speaker B: Yeah. So, I mean, you can dance if you want to or you can Just watch these boobies spin around your turntable. You know what I mean? So I will give him props for that. He did. He did get creative with his. His album art. Boobies. There. It's boobies. There's. There's like, more than boobies, too. You get just. Yeah. In fact, he was more clever. He would have lined up the holes with the hole for the center pin on the record player. I don't. I'm looking right now at him, and careful, he might end up on the wrong website. Well, no, I got. I got him on my. Imagine the Bop, my computer, but I don't see where he lined up the holes properly. So 1. That's the inlay of the record. So you got that one. You got that one. I can just do the this. You have that one and that one. Huh. That's the paper in the center of the. Yeah, I think he could have. But I mean, let's be for real. That's. I mean, naked women, this guy. It's like visual entertainment. [00:13:30] Speaker A: That's a good thing. [00:13:31] Speaker B: Yeah. So you'll have to Google those yourselves, people. I am not putting those in the video. No, I. I wouldn't either. But look up Moody man. You can. Huh? Say booty man. Moody. Not booty man. Moody man. You can dance if you want to. [00:13:53] Speaker A: What. [00:13:54] Speaker B: What is your problem? I think he's hungry. [00:13:57] Speaker A: I'm gonna try to. [00:13:58] Speaker B: Is he hungry? Because, you know, we got a partner that can help with that. [00:14:03] Speaker A: Do we? [00:14:04] Speaker B: We got a partner. Yeah. Named Castos. [00:14:06] Speaker A: But do they live in New York and do they love us? [00:14:09] Speaker B: I don't think they really know us. [00:14:10] Speaker A: Oh, shoot. [00:14:12] Speaker B: But we partner with them and we know them. We do. We do know them, because. Dang right. We know them, yo. Because they are our podcasting distribution platform. That's why. You know that. [00:14:27] Speaker A: I knew that. [00:14:28] Speaker B: Yeah. And they, even though they don't really know us, they offer us multiple services like automated transcriptions and unlimited uploads and downloads. They offered that to us and they don't even know us. Fixed monthly pricing, even. Sweet, right? They allow us to try to make money even though we haven't, but they do. And we got a link to them in the description below that if you click on it, they won't know you, but they'll give you a 14 day free trial. [00:14:59] Speaker A: That nice of them. [00:15:00] Speaker B: That is nice of them. They don't. Yeah. So, yeah, we. Are we waiting for our food? I think producer Aaron's trying to pick the next hottest. [00:15:12] Speaker A: Oh, he's right there. [00:15:13] Speaker B: Oh, is he there? Who gets it? Oh, this is coming to Timmy T. Is it really? It's coming your way. [00:15:19] Speaker A: Oh, shoot. Okay, I'm ready. [00:15:21] Speaker B: One, two, three, catch. Oh, there it is. [00:15:24] Speaker A: Pacheco. That's what he does. Catches the football and runs. [00:15:28] Speaker B: Is that an angry run? What do we got? [00:15:31] Speaker A: Ms. Mike's. Ms. Mikes. Mrs. Mike's. Always fresh potato chips. [00:15:41] Speaker B: Mrs. Mike's. [00:15:42] Speaker A: Yes. Fresh as a daisy. Put a little daisy on my face. [00:15:50] Speaker B: This is Mike's? [00:15:51] Speaker A: Yeah. I never heard of that. [00:15:56] Speaker B: It's local. It's from Freeport. No, Say it kind of has that Mrs. Fisher's feel. [00:16:04] Speaker A: Right. [00:16:14] Speaker B: You can't get it open. Oh, he got it. [00:16:16] Speaker A: I don't want to jack the bag, though, but that's what it's doing. There we go. There we go. Yeah. [00:16:24] Speaker B: Mrs. Mike's, huh? Smell like potato chips. [00:16:28] Speaker A: Yeah. Got the thickness. Like a Ms. Fisher too, do they? [00:16:41] Speaker B: Is this just regular chips? So let's see how Mrs. Mike's does. [00:16:53] Speaker A: Smells like a chip. [00:17:02] Speaker B: Tastes like Mrs. Fishers too. Which, for those of you who don't know, Mrs. Fisher's is another local chip making place. I don't know. Old salties. [00:17:25] Speaker A: I don't think these are as thick as the Fishers. [00:17:28] Speaker B: No, they're not quite as thick. Not as thick. [00:17:30] Speaker A: Which I like. [00:17:32] Speaker B: Mrs. Fishers are thick and hard. [00:17:34] Speaker A: I love Mrs. Fishers, but sometimes it's kind of difficult because it jabs me in my gums. [00:17:43] Speaker B: Of Mrs. Fisher's. [00:17:48] Speaker A: Oh. [00:17:49] Speaker B: I don't know if everyone. If everyone has local chip making places, but if you do support them, man. Those are usually some of your best chips, man. [00:17:58] Speaker A: Send us a bag. We'll try them right here. Yeah, that one was super salty. Did you get one like that? [00:18:05] Speaker B: No, I didn't get anything super salty. [00:18:08] Speaker A: Wow. [00:18:11] Speaker B: Getting a little oil pockets. [00:18:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:13] Speaker B: Yeah. I love this. Do you? [00:18:17] Speaker A: These are good. [00:18:19] Speaker B: Really are so Mrs. Mike's. [00:18:23] Speaker A: Odd name, but. [00:18:25] Speaker B: Yeah. Odd name from a town just a few miles from us. [00:18:33] Speaker A: Yeah, these are good. [00:18:34] Speaker B: I like to work on their oils a little bit. Take a few more of those. Thank you, sir. All right, well, thank you Castos for some. [00:18:48] Speaker A: Castos for all your podcast needs. You didn't. [00:19:00] Speaker B: So check them out. Mrs. Mike's. Check out Castos. [00:19:04] Speaker A: I bet you could probably order them online. Probably. [00:19:07] Speaker B: I would think so. [00:19:08] Speaker A: Yeah. So you could live in Wyoming and still try them. [00:19:13] Speaker B: You live in Europe, you can still try them. You can still try them. [00:19:16] Speaker A: Might be pricey, but you could try them. [00:19:19] Speaker B: Guess it depends on. So first episode of the day. It's early in the morning for me. I was going to say. I'm not gonna start with something hot. No. Yeah. All right. So. [00:19:39] Speaker A: You know what? I think all the critics in New York would love these chips. [00:19:43] Speaker B: You think so? Yeah, it's hard to say. [00:19:45] Speaker A: They're really good chips. [00:19:47] Speaker B: They are good. So there was some. You know, Prince did a few different things with this. He. And as Indigo Knights, he did a. All the critics love you. And Paris, I believe in London. That's all the critics love you in London. So there you have. It wasn't a whole lot to this one. And like, quite honestly, I'm not a super huge fan of the song, but is what it is, man. I ain't gonna like everything the guy does. Right. [00:20:23] Speaker A: This is true. [00:20:25] Speaker B: So. All right, well, I guess we'll just kind of wrap this one up then. And. And something to keep in mind as we have our hundredth episode coming. We're still working on trying to get some things put together for that, so stay tuned for that. [00:20:42] Speaker A: Be there. Oh, that's good. [00:20:45] Speaker B: I was gonna say that kind of took me by surprise. [00:20:48] Speaker A: I'm going to be there now. [00:20:49] Speaker B: Got much choice. So. Yeah. And if you want to hit us up and talk to us, we'd love talking to you, you know, so you can email us at Alpha street podcast at Gmail. Do you say Street? [00:21:01] Speaker A: He did that? [00:21:03] Speaker B: I. Well, because I'm so excited about our 100 you are Alpha Suite podcast at Gmail. You can comment below on YouTube. You can. [00:21:15] Speaker A: Those. Those two are the fastest ways to get a hold of it. [00:21:18] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yeah. Because the rest of it, I mean, we do have our. Our Facebook. Facebook. But yeah, like we keep saying this. [00:21:27] Speaker A: We're. [00:21:27] Speaker B: We're slowly getting away from that. And we've done X'd out of Twitter. [00:21:33] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:34] Speaker B: You get it. [00:21:35] Speaker A: That's funny. [00:21:37] Speaker B: So you're a funny guy. So, yeah, hit us up and. Funny guy. He's a funny man. What the heck? We're being invaded. So. And you know, like, and subscribe and comment and share and do that with all the other. Yeah, all the other. I'd seen it. All the other Spotify's and Amazons and whatever other podcasting platform you find us on. [00:22:09] Speaker A: I found us on Pandora. [00:22:13] Speaker B: Pandora. Yeah. [00:22:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:14] Speaker B: Did you really? Yeah, we're on Pandora. [00:22:17] Speaker A: We're on Pandora. [00:22:18] Speaker B: I think Pandora did podcast. [00:22:19] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:20] Speaker B: Wow. [00:22:21] Speaker A: I think it was Pandora. [00:22:22] Speaker B: We are cool. So, yeah, check us out. [00:22:26] Speaker A: Well, I don't want to lie to people, man. I'm pretty sure it's Pandora. [00:22:30] Speaker B: Pandora. [00:22:31] Speaker A: Pandora. [00:22:32] Speaker B: Yeah, Pandora. [00:22:35] Speaker A: That's a new one. That's out. [00:22:37] Speaker B: Okay. Anyway, are you. Do you want me to wait until you find that? [00:22:43] Speaker A: Yeah, let me just. Oh. Oh. [00:22:46] Speaker B: What are you doing? [00:22:47] Speaker A: I was playing my pooping music, I guess. [00:22:52] Speaker B: Hopefully you're not pooping in the chair. [00:22:54] Speaker A: No, no, no. [00:22:55] Speaker B: Okay. We sit in awkward silence while you search Pandora for. Instead of sending an awkward silence, you can head on over to patreon.com Alphabet sweet podcast for extra content. Oh, we got some cool content. And there's going to be a new free series on Patreon. You don't have to pay to watch it. [00:23:23] Speaker A: Free, Free. [00:23:24] Speaker B: You just got to go over there to watch it. And you're going to get a sample of that on the hundredth episode, you know what? Which is coming up. The. The. The. The. The first ever episode of the News Things that I don't know what to call yet. It's gonna be on the hundredth episode of the New Things, and then that new thing will continue on its own on Patreon. Is that on Pandora? [00:23:53] Speaker A: That is on Pandora. [00:23:55] Speaker B: We are on Pandora. [00:23:57] Speaker A: Yes. [00:23:58] Speaker B: So, yeah. Yay. Yay us. So, all right, now that we have confirmed we are in some cool places, check us out until next time, people. Peace. [00:24:10] Speaker A: Peace. Bye.
