[00:00:00] Speaker A: It is now disclaimer time. [00:00:02] Speaker B: We are here to share Prince's works with the utmost authenticity, clarity and precision. This means there may be situations where the material being discussed may be sensitive or offensive to some. However, we have chosen to discuss his work as it was initially produced. We will not alter any of his original work to suit anyone's comfort, including in our own. This podcast is to celebrate Prince and his works. [00:00:29] Speaker C: Thank you for your support and understanding. Now, on to the show. [00:00:36] Speaker D: Hello. Welcome to Alphabet Suite podcast for the Prince songbook. There are hundreds of songs to choose from. You have chosen. [00:00:47] Speaker A: Welcome back to another episode of Alphabet Suite podcast. I am your gorgeous host, Timothy. [00:00:56] Speaker E: Why am I going your bike. [00:01:01] Speaker A: What the hell, man? [00:01:08] Speaker E: He thinks he's being funny now. [00:01:10] Speaker C: Oh, I'm hilarious. [00:01:13] Speaker E: I'm your co host, Pat. [00:01:15] Speaker C: And I'm producer Aaron. Having a ball. [00:01:21] Speaker E: People are going to listen to the podcast, and they're going to. [00:01:27] Speaker C: No, it's not your headphones, I promise. [00:01:29] Speaker E: No, it's just us. Just little old me. He's digging this new setup, man. [00:01:39] Speaker A: Have you noticed that from the first one that we shot today to now how more vocal he's getting as we go? [00:01:49] Speaker E: He is. You know why? He's got food in him. [00:01:52] Speaker A: Oh, okay. [00:01:54] Speaker E: It's a snack time. [00:01:56] Speaker C: That might just be part of it. [00:01:57] Speaker E: That's what it is. [00:01:59] Speaker A: All right, so today we are talking about this unreleased again. [00:02:07] Speaker E: Again? [00:02:09] Speaker A: Aces. [00:02:10] Speaker E: Aces. [00:02:11] Speaker A: Not kings and queens, but aces. [00:02:13] Speaker E: Yeah. So what do we know about this? [00:02:20] Speaker A: It was recorded, I think, in 1976. [00:02:25] Speaker E: Was it? [00:02:25] Speaker A: Yeah, I think the moon sound in. Where was it? Minneapolis. [00:02:34] Speaker E: Prince recording in Minneapolis. [00:02:36] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:02:37] Speaker E: That's kind of weird. [00:02:38] Speaker A: It is, though, right? But, yeah, if I remember correctly, you. [00:02:43] Speaker E: Know why it's called Moon Sound? [00:02:46] Speaker A: No. [00:02:47] Speaker E: Because Chris Moon owned it. You know who Chris Moon is? [00:02:50] Speaker A: I do. [00:02:51] Speaker E: Who's Chris Moon? [00:02:53] Speaker C: Did you bark at him? [00:02:55] Speaker E: Bark at the moon? What? [00:03:03] Speaker A: Chris Moon is not being barked at by being barked at. [00:03:12] Speaker E: Unless your producer, Aaron. [00:03:13] Speaker A: Yeah, there you go. Who is Chris Moon? [00:03:16] Speaker E: Chris Moon is who originally got with Prince when he first got started. [00:03:22] Speaker A: Okay. [00:03:23] Speaker E: And he actually wrote a lot of lyrics to Prince's earlier stuff. [00:03:30] Speaker A: Really? [00:03:31] Speaker E: Yeah. He helped Prince, basically. He's one of the ones that helped Prince get a recording. [00:03:40] Speaker F: Wow. [00:03:41] Speaker E: Okay. And in fact, this song aces, Chris Moon wrote the lyrics, too, also. Yeah. [00:03:50] Speaker A: It definitely wasn't Andre Simone. I don't care what the story is. It's out. [00:03:55] Speaker E: Wasn't they initially were saying know because they called Andre. At one time, his nickname was aces. And so there's like, oh, is this song about him. Well, Chris Moon wrote the lyrics, so I highly doubt that this was actually about Andre Simone. Doesn't mean it's, you know. [00:04:19] Speaker A: You never know. [00:04:20] Speaker E: You never know. [00:04:21] Speaker A: I don't think it is know. [00:04:23] Speaker E: So I know what Chris Moon's relationship with. You know, what was his relationship with Andre, if there was one? [00:04:32] Speaker A: Right. [00:04:33] Speaker E: So just because Chris Moon wrote the lyrics doesn't mean that Chris Moon didn't know Andre and didn't call him aces and didn't write the song about. I mean, I think that's just a big assumption that just because Prince didn't write the lyrics, that it's not about Andre. And what sucks is because I've never heard it. I can't tell you. It was on a demo tape. [00:04:58] Speaker A: It was because it was supposed to be on the album for you. [00:05:01] Speaker E: Yeah, but it never made it, and I've never heard it. And so I don't know. Was it about Andre? Was it not about Andre? [00:05:13] Speaker A: We will never know. Is Chris Moon still alive? [00:05:16] Speaker E: Yeah, Chris Moon's still alive. [00:05:17] Speaker A: We can ask him because he would know. He wrote it. [00:05:21] Speaker E: He wrote the lyrics. He would know. In fact, he just sold off, or I don't know if he actually sold it. I know he was trying to sell off the rights to one of the songs. I want to say it was soft and wet, maybe that he wrote and he was selling off the rights to where you would then own the rights to his share of the rights to that song. [00:05:47] Speaker A: Does he need money? [00:05:49] Speaker E: It's financially possible. I know it was right after Prince died and maybe thought, oh, I'll jump on the get rich quick off Prince band. I don't know. I don't know Chris Moon. I don't know what kind of person he is. I don't know. But, yeah, I did see that he was trying to sell his rights, his share of the rights to some of the prince music he wrote. Yeah. So I don't know what this song is like. According to Chris Moon, it was around seven minute long experimental track, whatever that means. He said it was experimental in nature, so maybe that's why. Because look, read after that, Mediterranean makes it indian sections. So kind of like around the world in a day. [00:06:45] Speaker A: Oh, man, I love that album. That would be great to hear, man. [00:06:49] Speaker E: Yeah, I think so. And I wonder if we could actually. Maybe we should try to track down Chris Moon and talk to him. That would be some interesting know, you see all these interviews or hear all these interviews, and almost all of them are with later people in his life, right? So you don't see anything with like Chris Moon or Owen Husney or, you know, you see Rogers, you know, all the revolution. [00:07:21] Speaker A: All the other lady's name, too. I can't think of her name. [00:07:24] Speaker E: What other lady? [00:07:26] Speaker A: The one I don't know. Susan and the other lady worked together at the same time there. She was more of a. She was more of a like. I don't know. She was different than. She was like the opposite of Susan. I can't think of her name as. [00:07:48] Speaker E: A producer or like sound technician or. What do you mean? [00:07:53] Speaker A: She was like. I don't know. I don't know what I'm trying to say. She's different than. [00:08:02] Speaker E: But what? [00:08:03] Speaker A: Personality wise, they were just two. Totally different. The other one wouldn't. I sat on my ass to where Susan would. More like professional type talk. You know this woman do. I can't think. Yeah, everybody knows this woman, man. [00:08:23] Speaker E: Everybody knows this woman. [00:08:26] Speaker C: If you want to get in touch with Chris Moon, I'd probably try to make it quick. [00:08:31] Speaker E: Why? He is in his seventy s. Is he? Yes. [00:08:36] Speaker C: He also worked with MC Hammer. [00:08:38] Speaker E: Really? [00:08:39] Speaker C: Yeah. On she's soft. [00:08:40] Speaker E: And so there you go. He didn't work with MC Hammer on that. That's the song that he co wrote with Prince. So he gets credit for that because MC Hammer sampled that song. That's the one. Like I said, he's trying to sell off the rights, his share of the rights. [00:08:57] Speaker A: But didn't he have the MC hammer have to get permission from him to. [00:09:01] Speaker E: Right. So that's why he gets credit. He gets writing credit, but it's not like. He may have, but I doubt it. He probably just got the credit because he wrote soft and wet. He wrote the lyrics. [00:09:12] Speaker C: Well, according to his wiki, his last work was in 2013. [00:09:17] Speaker A: Wow. [00:09:18] Speaker E: So if we're going to get in touch with him, we better figure that out fast. [00:09:23] Speaker A: Well, you're just assuming because he's 70 that he might live to be 120. [00:09:29] Speaker E: He could. [00:09:30] Speaker A: His mind might not be there, let's say. [00:09:32] Speaker E: I'm not assuming he's going to die. I'm just like, we need to start getting in touch with people and see if they'll. [00:09:38] Speaker A: Yeah, we don't do it. You said you wanted to wait until we got things. We're getting there. [00:09:43] Speaker E: We're getting to a point now where I think know season two could be the season of know, bro, can we. [00:09:49] Speaker A: Get the thing, your idea, whatever. To replace the idea of the whiteboard in some. I don't know what the hell you said anyway, let's go. Aces. [00:10:00] Speaker E: Aces. So if you want to hear it. [00:10:05] Speaker A: You cannot do so. Not from us anyway, at our sister station, Alphabet suite playlist. So don't look for it there. No, but we got everything else that we've. [00:10:16] Speaker E: I don't know if I'd say everything. [00:10:18] Speaker A: That we've talked about. No, never mind. [00:10:20] Speaker E: We have got a lot of stuff and it just keeps growing. We add more all the time, you. [00:10:26] Speaker C: Know, we've also got. [00:10:27] Speaker E: What do we got? [00:10:28] Speaker C: Snack time. [00:10:32] Speaker E: Who is our partner for snack time? [00:10:34] Speaker A: Gastos. Go ahead. [00:10:40] Speaker E: The what? The choice for podcasters. [00:10:44] Speaker A: Thank you, partner. [00:12:51] Speaker H: This is a limited edition release, limited. [00:12:54] Speaker E: Edition of limited edition strawberry Mango. Is this candy mango? It's fruit. [00:13:01] Speaker F: Fruit. [00:13:05] Speaker E: Let's see what this fruit tastes like. [00:13:08] Speaker H: It is dried fruit. Freeze dried. Freeze dried fruit. [00:13:12] Speaker E: Freeze dried fruit. [00:13:13] Speaker A: Freeze dried fruit. [00:13:15] Speaker E: Boy, we try some weird things on this show. [00:13:17] Speaker A: I love this stuff. [00:13:21] Speaker H: They have a lot of. [00:13:22] Speaker E: Do they? [00:13:23] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:13:24] Speaker E: Uh oh. Timmy's got that look about him. [00:13:28] Speaker A: What the. [00:13:29] Speaker E: It's freeze dried fruit, bro. [00:13:31] Speaker H: Grab a strawberry and grab a slice of mango. [00:13:33] Speaker A: Just gross looking. There you go. [00:13:43] Speaker H: Eating them both together is fantastic. [00:13:46] Speaker E: I got to get it. [00:13:47] Speaker F: Okay. Whoa, whoa, whoa. [00:13:54] Speaker A: What? [00:13:57] Speaker E: Put it in your mouth. [00:13:58] Speaker A: No. Braid. It stinks so bad. [00:14:06] Speaker H: Smells like mango. [00:14:08] Speaker E: Can't talk. [00:14:12] Speaker F: What the hell is that? [00:14:16] Speaker E: My goodness. [00:14:19] Speaker F: Oh. [00:14:23] Speaker H: You need some paper towels? [00:14:25] Speaker A: No, I got a cup, man. This is gross, dude. [00:14:28] Speaker F: Oh, whoa. [00:14:33] Speaker H: How is it gross? Just dried through. [00:14:36] Speaker E: Oh, my goodness. [00:14:48] Speaker F: Oh. [00:14:52] Speaker E: I need a drink. That is sour. [00:15:00] Speaker F: Whoo. [00:15:02] Speaker E: I think Aaron set us up on that one a little bit. [00:15:08] Speaker F: Wow. [00:15:10] Speaker E: Okay. Like, he's just popping that into his mouth like it's candy. [00:15:27] Speaker H: Good morning, Vietnam. [00:15:29] Speaker E: Oh, my goodness. Regretting drinking all that coffee now, aren't you? [00:15:41] Speaker A: Awesome. [00:15:42] Speaker H: Water. [00:15:44] Speaker A: That was horrible. [00:15:47] Speaker E: I was bad. [00:15:51] Speaker F: Oh. Whoo. [00:15:55] Speaker E: And you eat these things all the time. [00:15:57] Speaker A: I am so sorry. [00:15:59] Speaker F: Wow. [00:16:03] Speaker A: That. [00:16:03] Speaker E: Oh, that was like a punch in the mouth, man. [00:16:09] Speaker A: Did you taste anything mangoey or strawberry? [00:16:12] Speaker E: Once I got past that, like, 10 minutes of super sour. [00:16:17] Speaker C: We need to clarify for the listeners. [00:16:20] Speaker E: Okay, what are we clarifying? [00:16:22] Speaker C: It doesn't taste bad. It tastes like strawberries and mango. [00:16:25] Speaker E: Right. [00:16:26] Speaker C: But they're covered in sour powder. [00:16:27] Speaker E: They're covered in this stuff that just, like, puckers your butthole. Well, I mean, it was so bad, I couldn't talk. It had, like, closed my throat. [00:16:41] Speaker F: Wow. [00:16:41] Speaker E: Okay, I need another drink. Hold on. Yeah, I think we were set up. Definitely set up on that one. [00:16:51] Speaker A: I tasted no mango, no strawberry. But it's because I had to swallow them whole. It was so nasty. You couldn't chew it because every time you go to take a bite, there's more sour, and you're like, oh, God. [00:17:07] Speaker E: And you notice how he kind of. Oh, you got to take one of each. [00:17:11] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:17:12] Speaker C: Well, yeah, it's strawberry mango. [00:17:15] Speaker E: No, it was sour. It is sour. [00:17:19] Speaker C: That's the whole point. [00:17:20] Speaker E: What do they put on this stuff to make it, like, is it, like, alum or something? [00:17:25] Speaker C: No, that's a thickening or preserving agent, I think. No, your sour stuff is usually a combination or one of each of citric acid and malic acid, which are the natural things in, like, fruits and stuff that make them sour and bitter. [00:17:43] Speaker F: Wow. [00:17:45] Speaker E: So they use both. That was intense, man. [00:17:48] Speaker C: You should see the level three. [00:17:50] Speaker E: What do you mean, level three? [00:17:51] Speaker C: They have different levels, so their regular flavors are blueberry and cranberry. [00:17:56] Speaker E: What level were we at? [00:17:58] Speaker C: Well, those ones don't have a level. [00:18:01] Speaker E: So we're at level zero. [00:18:03] Speaker C: They were close to, like, they're kind of between level one and two, but strawberries and mangoes on their own are a little more naturally sour, except for the cranberries, so they just released, like a. Just strawberry. So if you sign up for their mailing list, like, you get all of. [00:18:20] Speaker E: Their early release stuff. I will not be doing that. [00:18:25] Speaker C: Level three is actually too much for me. And I love sour candy. [00:18:29] Speaker F: Wow. [00:18:31] Speaker C: I was eating one at a time. [00:18:32] Speaker E: Over the course of a couple of days of the blueberries. And that was level three? Yeah, it was brutal. [00:18:38] Speaker C: Yeah, like, I turned into you. [00:18:41] Speaker E: What does that mean? [00:18:42] Speaker C: Couldn't talk. Face went inside out. [00:18:46] Speaker E: Oh, man. [00:18:47] Speaker C: Level three is not a joke. One and two are fine. [00:18:51] Speaker E: Like I said, it was like a punch in my face. [00:18:53] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:18:53] Speaker C: The strawberry or mango is my favorite. [00:18:56] Speaker F: Wow. [00:18:58] Speaker E: And we did that on air. [00:19:01] Speaker C: Now the world knows that both of you do not like sour. [00:19:05] Speaker F: Wow. [00:19:06] Speaker E: That was crazy. [00:19:08] Speaker A: Okay. [00:19:10] Speaker F: Yeah. Wow. [00:19:14] Speaker E: I don't know if I'm going to be able to get past that. I think I'm traumatized. [00:19:18] Speaker A: It's still in my throat. [00:19:20] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:19:21] Speaker C: You sure you don't want some water? [00:19:22] Speaker A: No, I'm good. [00:19:23] Speaker F: It'll go away. [00:19:25] Speaker E: All right, so, yeah, aces unreleased. It is recorded, though. We don't have it. [00:19:34] Speaker A: Is it recorded? [00:19:36] Speaker E: Yeah. Remember, it's on a demo. See, this just soured the memory right out of us, man. [00:19:44] Speaker F: Wow. [00:19:44] Speaker E: That's how good it is. [00:19:45] Speaker C: So if you're really into sour stuff, check out final ball sour. [00:19:49] Speaker F: Wow. [00:19:50] Speaker E: I'm finding little bits of it, like, tucked away in my cheek when you pull it out to try to get it. And, yeah, it hits you again. All right, so I think we're going to, on that note, end this episode for a minute, and we will see you guys next time on the Alphabet Sweet podcast. [00:20:15] Speaker C: Where can people get in touch? [00:20:16] Speaker E: Oh, yeah. [00:20:17] Speaker A: Take our piece back again. [00:20:20] Speaker E: See, this is what happens, man. It soured our brains right out. It shriveled them up. I bet my brain looks like a little like a raisin. Just pocket it right up. [00:20:33] Speaker A: All right, so you can get us at Alphasuite podcast at Gmail, Alphabetsuite podcast on the Facebook, YouTube, and any other platforms you can see us hear us at, right? See and hear. [00:20:51] Speaker E: You can see us on the YouTube. [00:20:53] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I'm saying that's what makes it. [00:20:55] Speaker E: And hear us on the other platforms. That's the only one. This is what it does. See what happens when you eat something sour like that? It just messes with you. [00:21:09] Speaker A: Alphabet Sweet podcast on YouTube and on X or sister station, which is Alphabet sweet playlist. [00:21:21] Speaker E: You will not have to deal with sour candy. [00:21:23] Speaker A: Dude, you were reading my mind. [00:21:25] Speaker E: I was saying that where are. [00:21:28] Speaker F: Oh. [00:21:28] Speaker E: And if you want to help support us, where can they do that? [00:21:33] Speaker C: Producer Aaron Patreon.com Alphabetsuite podcast where I'm going to do a special version of that. Sour reaction. [00:21:45] Speaker E: Yeah, we probably not going to want to see that. Oh, my goodness. That was intense. So until next time, people, we're going to try this again. Peace. [00:21:59] Speaker F: Wow. [00:21:59] Speaker A: Horrible. [00:22:05] Speaker F: You. [00:22:11] Speaker C: This has been a Tatanka Enterprises production.
