[00:00:00] Speaker A: It is now disclaimer time. [00:00:02] Speaker B: We are here to share Prince's works with the utmost authenticity, clarity and precision. This means there may be situations where the material being discussed may be sensitive or offensive to some. However, we have chosen to discuss his work as it was initially produced. We will not alter any of his original work to suit anyone's comfort, including our own. This podcast is to celebrate Prince and his works. Thank you for your support and understanding. Now onto the show. [00:00:35] Speaker A: Hello. [00:00:36] Speaker B: Welcome to Alphabet podcast for the Prince songbook. [00:00:39] Speaker A: There are hundreds of songs to choose from. You have chosen. Hey, hey. Welcome back to another episode of Alphabet. [00:00:59] Speaker B: Sweet podcast, where we are butt licking good. [00:01:02] Speaker A: We are butt licking good. All right. Do you notice when I'm trying to think of something fancy to go with and I can't get nothing out of my head? So my intros, you know, is that what that is? That's what the hell, cuz you like. [00:01:17] Speaker B: Every once in a while our sound comes in and you're like. [00:01:25] Speaker A: Can he not see you? Because that's hilarious right there. [00:01:29] Speaker B: That's what I see, you know? No, he don't. [00:01:33] Speaker A: Yeah, we're not gonna. Never mind. I ain't going there. But I am your host, Timothy. [00:01:43] Speaker B: And I am your co host, Pat. And I'm producer Aaron. Rock on. [00:01:50] Speaker A: So today we are talking about. Would you stop that? [00:01:59] Speaker B: What are we talking about. [00:02:03] Speaker A: Idiots? [00:02:04] Speaker B: I'd assume it's a print song. [00:02:07] Speaker A: Well, no, not really. [00:02:11] Speaker B: Not today. [00:02:12] Speaker A: We are talking about a cover version from back in the day. I wanted to find the year. I don't see it, though. Back in the day when they, you know. [00:02:27] Speaker B: Oh, that was back in the seventies, I believe, man. [00:02:30] Speaker A: But the song is ain't nobody. [00:02:32] Speaker B: Ain't nobody by Rufus and Shaka khan. [00:02:35] Speaker A: Chaka khan. Chaka khan. [00:02:38] Speaker B: Shaka. Shaka khan. I like that, man. Shaka khan. Let me rocky, let me rocky. Chaka khan. [00:02:41] Speaker A: I mean, I like Prince's version, but Shaka Khan, really. We're not talking about that song. [00:02:47] Speaker B: We're not talking about that song. But I agree with you 100%. There's. There's not a lot of, like, songs and remakes that you're like, oh, you know, that was better than the original. There's not many. I'm not saying they don't exist, because they do, but most of the time you're like, nah, I still dig the original better. Remake was good. Original better. [00:03:06] Speaker A: Yep. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Not with that one. But we're not talking about that one. Yeah. Anyway, what are we talking about? [00:03:15] Speaker A: We are talking about the. No, studio version by Prince, though, for ain't nobody. [00:03:21] Speaker B: No. Mmm, no. [00:03:25] Speaker A: Now let me ask you, we're on Prince Vault, right? [00:03:30] Speaker B: Mm hmm. [00:03:30] Speaker A: Okay. How really up to date are they on this stuff? [00:03:34] Speaker B: I don't know. I. They seem to be the one that's most reliable and the reason that's one of the. So, like, when we first started this podcast, I used to like, try to search everywhere for information. [00:03:47] Speaker A: Correct. [00:03:48] Speaker B: So you're like, you're going all over and you're pulling this, that and the other. And for the most part, I would say, you know, Prince Vault and mad props to the, whoever runs Prince Vault. I think you guys do an excellent job. You guys are great. Um, they seem to be the one that has the most accurate stuff. And they get a lot of their stuff from some of these other places that I was going, like books that I was reading and other stuff. And if you look, they give it credit on their pages as to, you know, references as where they got the information. [00:04:24] Speaker A: Correct. [00:04:24] Speaker B: So I was like, well, why am I running around reading all these same things and doing all the same stuff when they already did all the research and got it all together? So, yes, people, the secret is out. Most of what we get, most of our information comes from Prince Vault. I highly suggest you check them guys out. They are great. They're an excellent source for information on Prince, at least from what I have found. I'm sure a lot of people are like, oh, they don't know nothing. And you ain't no prints fan. If you ain't reading this, that and the other. That's fine. I dig them. I like them mad props. [00:04:59] Speaker A: So we've had somebody that disagreed with us. [00:05:03] Speaker B: We did. But he never, he never manifested anything to back up what he was saying. [00:05:08] Speaker A: Yeah, to me, it was just a. [00:05:10] Speaker B: Bunch of, yeah, yeah. If you don't back up what you got, then I got nothing for you. You know, I was hoping that maybe there was some truth to what he was saying and that he was going to produce more of, you know, the, the facts and everything. That that would have been cool, but didn't happen. [00:05:33] Speaker A: Anyway, in the end, you know, you. [00:05:35] Speaker B: Ain'T nobody, so, so anyway, Rufus and Chaka Khan. [00:05:45] Speaker A: Chuckon, every time I hear her name, that's all that right into it, man. [00:05:49] Speaker B: So ain't nobody came out in 1983, just so you know, I thought producer Ann was gonna check that out, but I did. [00:06:00] Speaker A: I don't think he's in there. I couldn't tell because he left our studio. I'm here aha. [00:06:07] Speaker B: He put a wall between us. [00:06:08] Speaker A: Yes. [00:06:10] Speaker B: Why? Are you expecting me to look up stuff that you should already have? That's what a producer does, keeps us in line, remember? That doesn't mean I do your job. Well, kinda just do it. So anyway, yeah, it came out in 1983, and then prince did, on Third Eye TV, he did a performance. It was kind of part of a medley that he did with days of wild and don't stop the music, family affair, that kind of stuff. So, I mean, it wasn't. It was a rehearsal. It wasn't even, like, in a. In a stage performance, it was just a rehearsal. You know, that's the only official release of Prince, and that's why this song is in here. So it's not one of the higher. I mean, it's. It's just there was a rehearsal of it. And because it was released as a rehearsal in official capacity on Third Eye TV, we count that, you know, he performs, like, a lot of songs in his shows that we'll probably never cover, because if there wasn't an official release of it, then we won't talk about it. But because there was an official release of the rehearsal of him with this quick little snippet of ain't nobody. That's why we talking about it. [00:07:44] Speaker A: There we go. [00:07:45] Speaker B: So it really, his little snippet was. It was like two minutes long in 2012. Was it that long? Yeah, it was like two minutes. But I mean, it just him and Shelby and all them live Warfield. Which live Warfield. Just so y'all know, last I haven't checked lately, she is on the current season of America's Got Talent. And she is, like, moving along, man. She, the Simon loves her. They all. So if you want to watch some a Prince fam, really making it big, watch America's got Talent and support. Liv Warfield. She is great. So I agree. Yeah. I just wanted to get that out there. But she was also co lead vocals on Prince's version of ain't nobody. That's why I just wanted to let you know, support her. She's great. [00:08:47] Speaker A: Support her because public aid ain't doing it. That was stupid. [00:08:54] Speaker B: That was stupid. [00:08:56] Speaker A: You know what's not stupid, though? [00:08:57] Speaker B: What's not stupid? No one in this room is. That's for sure. [00:09:04] Speaker A: Friday, September 27, 2024. Yeah, they got, um, a charity event. [00:09:15] Speaker B: Who's got a charity event at Paisley park? Okay. [00:09:19] Speaker A: Sheila Ethereum. Um, the new power generation. [00:09:25] Speaker B: Okay. [00:09:26] Speaker A: More. Stay in the time. [00:09:27] Speaker B: Okay. [00:09:30] Speaker A: Life. [00:09:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Concert. Cool. [00:09:33] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:33] Speaker B: Are we going? [00:09:34] Speaker A: We are. [00:09:35] Speaker B: Are we yeah, somehow I don't think that's true. I wish it were true. [00:09:40] Speaker A: But that would rock, man. [00:09:41] Speaker B: That would rock. But I will be working, so. [00:09:45] Speaker A: And if you just tell them it's. [00:09:46] Speaker B: Like a prince thing, they'll understand. [00:09:49] Speaker A: I gotta just go. [00:09:51] Speaker B: I can't come to work. I gotta go to see a concert. You guys just. You don't know. You just don't know. Yeah, I don't think that would work. No. So. But yes, I mean, there really ain't much to say about this song, you know? I do like the song by Rufus and Chaka Khan. Chaka Khandhe. Chuck a chuck a chugga chucka chuck. [00:10:17] Speaker A: Yes. It's a good song. It is definitely a good song. [00:10:22] Speaker B: But other than that, I think this episode is really not going to be very long because, like I said, he. The only reason it's on the list, people, really, is because he released a rehearsal of it. He has performed it in concert quite a bit, from my understanding. So he. We know Prince loves Shaka khan, you know, and. And I love Shaka Khan. I think Shaka Khan's amazing. [00:10:49] Speaker A: Yes. [00:10:49] Speaker B: So. But, yeah. Anyway, do you got anything else to add about. Ain't nobody. [00:10:57] Speaker A: I have nothing.
